Why I became a nutritionist
It all started with being tired.... really, really tired.

I started my working life in the corporate world. In stockbroking. In the heady days of the 1980’s where 15 hour days were the norm and Saturdays were for “quiet time” at the office tidying up for the week ahead. Looking back, it was a whirlwind of stressful days interrupted by long boozy lunches. It was a challenge. And I loved it. We worked hard but I was young and ambitious and I was making headway.

Walking back to the office from the trading floor one day, clutching my usual breakfast bun and hot chocolate, the pavement decided to swing up and hit me upside the head. I was in my 20’s and I had passed-out from exhaustion. Looking back, I shouldn’t have been surprised. I had been running on stress and sugar for so long, that my body was totally depleted.

I was fortunate enough to be sent to a nutritionist who explained the missing pieces to my health puzzle and slowly helped me put my health back together.

He showed me the natural wonder of the body’s ability to heal itself when properly nourished. We also corrected nutrient deficiencies with some disgusting tasting herbs and other supplements and within about 6 weeks, it all had a profoundly positive effect on my energy levels, ability to concentrate and overall health.

For the first time in my life, symptoms I had come to consider normal, had either abated or completely disappeared. I no longer caught every bug going around and I found I could digest just about anything without bloating and getting embarrassingly gassy. I even lost weight, which is always a bonus!  But the most life changing was the amount of energy and mental clarity I now had. For the first time, I was able to work all day and have energy enough to exercise. I was even able to study part-time to further my corporate career.

It was many years later, while traveling the world with my expat husband and children that I grabbed the chance to go back to school and study nutritional medicine. I still use many of the lessons I learnt from healing my own health in my 20’s and combine these with what we now know about nutritional science, stress resilience and habit change to help my clients achieve the same.
